Nomad Joins Climate Neutral

| Words By Noah Dentzel | Nomad CEO

If you haven't noticed, the Nomad team is passionate about the outdoors. From weekend warrior trips to longer adventures, we get outside a lot. We don't just play outside though; we try to do our part to protect and conserve wild places and the outdoors through conservation and green business practices.

This past August, we announced that 100% of our shipments going forward would be 100% carbon neutral, through our partnership with Carbonfund. When it comes to sustainability, carbon-neutral shipping was just the start; we're proud to announce our pledge to be a fully carbon neutral company in 2020. This means that every emission caused by our business, whether it is employee travel or energy used to create new products, will be offset. We are accomplishing this as members of Climate Neutral, an independent non-profit organization created for companies like us to measure our environmental impact and commit to achieving net-zero carbon emissions. As of this writing, 36 other brands have taken the pledge towards net-zero emissions.

Places like Horseshoe Bend are inspiring and worth protecting

Climate Neutral will help us to measure, reduce and offset our carbon emissions. This three-step process will bring us to net-zero carbon emissions by 2020. We’ll work to reduce the amount of carbon we’re responsible for emitting, then zero out the rest by purchasing carbon offsets. Carbon offsets are investment projects that either prevent carbon from being emitted, like renewable energy, or remove carbon from the atmosphere, like planting trees and protecting forests.

We know carbon emissions are a problem, but we also believe in the power of human ingenuity to reduce them. We are excited to be part of the solution, rather than the problem.

Nomad Crew cleaning up a local Santa Barbara beach

At Nomad, we believe in solutions big and small, from cleaning up our local beaches to reevaluating our supply chain to make it greener. Not only are we working with Climate Neutral to offset all the emissions generated by our business, but we are also working with them to help reduce our impact wherever possible. This can be as simple as installing LED lighting in our office, or as complex as sourcing new materials. Every year going forward, we will renew this process with Climate Neutral to ensure we continue marching in the right direction.

Starting in 2020, you will see the Climate Neutral logo on our packaging to denote the fact that we are a participating member in the program. If you would like to learn more Climate Neutral, including how to become a partner, please visit climateneutral.org.
