WWDC 2026: What's New, and What It Means for You

Every June, Apple gathers developers and onlookers for WWDC, where they preview what's coming to your iPhone, Mac, and other devices later this year. This year's keynote was a big one. From a major Siri overhaul to design tweaks you'll actually notice day-to-day, here's what was announced and what it means for you.

Apple introduced the next versions of all its major operating systems: iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 (codenamed "Golden Gate," after the San Francisco landmark), watchOS 27, visionOS 27, and tvOS 27. Alongside these updates came three major themes: a completely reimagined Siri, Apple Intelligence woven throughout the operating system, and a refined version of last year's Liquid Glass design.

The new Siri AI combines Apple's latest AI architecture with Gemini-powered reasoning capabilities, making it noticeably more conversational and capable. In addition to working across the apps you already use, it now has a dedicated app.

One of the changes you can actually see: Siri can now see what's on your screen and take action based on it. On macOS, it's also built directly into Spotlight search, so finding a file, asking a question, or getting something done can all happen from the same place.

Last year, Apple introduced Liquid Glass, a translucent design language that reshaped how menus, icons, and navigation look across Apple devices. It was a big visual shift, and not everyone loved it right away. With iOS 27, Apple has gone back and smoothed out the rough edges.

The biggest fix is a new transparency slider that lets you control how see-through the interface is, so text and icons stay easy to read no matter what's behind them. App icons also got sharper, with extra layering that improves clarity and definition throughout the interface.

Beyond the headline features, Apple Intelligence is showing up in more places throughout the system.

Messages can now suggest replies based on the context of your conversation, so quick responses take less typing. A new Call Context feature can surface relevant information when you need it during a phone call, helping keep important details close at hand. Safari's tab management got smarter, and one-tap password updates make it easier to stay on top of your account security.

Apple also announced dedicated child accounts and expanded parental controls, giving parents more visibility and control over how younger users interact with their devices.

Most of these features will arrive as part of this year's software updates, rolling out later in the year as they have in years past. But in everyday use, here's what to expect: a Siri that better understands what you're asking and can follow through on it, an interface that's easier on the eyes thanks to Liquid Glass refinements, and small but meaningful conveniences, like faster replies and smarter password management, that quietly make your day a little smoother.
